Centenary Dance Academy (CDA)
At Centenary Dance Academy, the safety, wellbeing, and empowerment of all children and young people is our highest priority. We believe that every student has the right to feel safe, respected, and heard in our studios and at all CDA events.
Our Commitment We have zero tolerance for child abuse or harm. We are committed to providing a child-safe environment where children and young people are safe and feel safe, and where their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives.
Our Principles in Practice To uphold this commitment, Centenary Dance Academy adheres to the following core principles:
- Inclusive Environments: We celebrate diversity and are committed to the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and the safety of children with a disability.
- Professional Standards: All staff, contractors, and volunteers at CDA are required to hold a valid Queensland Blue Card and undergo regular training in child safety and safe dance practices.
- Safe Dance Practice: We integrate physically and psychologically safe teaching methods, ensuring that technical training respects the developmental stages of our young dancers.
- Empowerment & Participation: We encourage students to “speak up” if they feel worried or uncomfortable. Our Code of Conduct for students and parents outlines our expectations for a respectful and supportive studio culture.
- Responsive Procedures: We have robust procedures for responding to and reporting any allegations or concerns of child abuse or misconduct. We take all complaints seriously and act in accordance with Queensland legislative requirements.
Our Culture Child safety is embedded in our leadership and governance. Under the direction of our leadership team, we strive to foster a “child-centered” culture where the protection of our students is at the heart of everything we do—from the studio floor to our annual performances.
